Head of School - Welcome

Welcome to West Nottingham Academy’s electronic front door. I hope you find the information here useful, whether you are learning about us for the first time or checking in to see what's new at your old school. First time visitors will discover a school with deep roots in our nation's history. Friends and alumni will find ways to keep connected with the time they spent at West Nottingham and the people they met here.

Our faculty profiles pages will introduce you to the outstanding men and women who make WNA such a close-knit community for so many young people. These remarkable people are the dorm parents, coaches, and teachers at the very center of what we do.  At West Nottingham we work with each and every student in a spirit of mutual respect, honesty and commitment to develop to his or her gifts and talents to their fullest potential.  Central to achieving this goal is each student’s dedication to engaging fully in his or her own education.

We are also keenly aware that for many families, these are challenging economic times. Recently, we announced a major initiative to develop a strong financial bridge for those families who are interested in independent education for their sons and daughters, but thought it out of reach.  The Heritage Fund is an exciting tool at precisely the right time.

At the heart of who we are is that small, distinct learning community we have always been since 1744. Our mission is to know each West Nottingham student and provide the tools and guidance, the values and habits of heart and the mind that are essential for success in college and in life. We hope you will be able to visit our beautiful, tree-lined 120-acre campus soon. It is the best way to experience the West Nottingham community and get to know the people who make it up. In the meantime, I invite you to wander around our web site to learn more about our academic program, service learning program, athletics, the arts, and what it means to be a member of a distinctive boarding school community.

I invite you to wander our site but hope you will also accept my heartlfelt invitation to visit our campus soon.  Nothing can take the place of coming to campus and feeling welcomed -  and welcome to be your self. Only then can you begin to understand the difference, the distinctiveness that is WNA. On behalf of students, parents, faculty, staff and our entire community, past and present, welcome to West Nottingham.

Sincerely,

D. John Watson
Head of School
