Name: Glenn Ritter

Hometown: Lancaster, PA

Responsibilities: Science & Math department chair.

Favorite memory this year: Tham T. winning the merit award. It meant a lot to see how his peers reacted to him winning this award and how honored Tham was to have won.

Favorite meal: Beef Brisket – Man, that’s good!

Favorite movie: Excaliber

Favorite book: Lord of the Rings Trilogy. I read this book in 1971 for a class. Had I not read this book, I would not have discovered my love for reading.

Best part of teaching: Seeing when a student "gets it." Often, they also see why I love science because they are feeling that same passion.

Perfect day: Wake up without an alarm clock and go to the farmer’s Market with my wife, Lisa and my kids in Lancaster. Then we would end the day with a movie and a quiet dinner together.

Describe WNA: Old fashioned in exactly the right way. The students come first and we have new ways of teaching, but we get back to Socrates that teaching is one on one; we are not just teachers, but mentors.

What advice would you give to a new student? Always look at things from a different perspective, not just your view. If you still come to the same opinion or answer, then you should go forward with it.

Why is WNA the right “fit” for you? It is small, which allows for me to get to know the kids not just as students, but as people. It felt like home immediately when I stepped onto campus.

Favorite Spartan/Athenian moment: We were behind after the first competition, but then we ended up pulling out a victory. Go Spartans!

What are you most excited for this year? Environmental Science. It is going to be a great opportunity for our students to learn about the environment around them.
