One way you can enrich your child’s education here is to become involved in the activities of the school.  There are a myriad of volunteer opportunities available even for parents who live at a great distance!  Volunteering will help you get to know the school better and will also give you the opportunity to meet other parents.  Please look over the list and determine where your interests and expertise lie.


Class Activities
  • Chaperone field trips, service learning activities, and cultural activities
  • Help with class fundraisers, from bake sales to car washes
  • Assist with special class events
  • Assist with the Canteen
  • Choose to assist Grade 9, Grade 10, Grade 11 or Grade 12

Library

  • Assist the librarian and work with the collection doing various tasks such as shelving books and processing new books added to the collection
  • Make our librarian aware of libraries in your area that are giving materials away

Academics

  • Share your interesting experiences with history classes
  • Share your travel experiences with Spanish and French classes, including culinary arts, art and music
  • Assist with special academic projects
  • Be a proofreader for students’ papers

International Program

  • Translate documents for our Web site (Korean, Chinese, Thai)
  • Serve as weekend host family for our international students
  • Serve as host family for visiting foreign students
  • Serve as emergency host family for our international students who leave later or return earlier from scheduled school vacations
  • Consider including an international student on college visits that you make with your child

School Fundraising

  • Join other parents in the Annual Fund phonathon
  • Assist as host/hostess at off-campus events and gatherings
  • Be a volunteer for specific fund-raising events:  event planning, advertising, execution!

Ambassadorship:  Assist as host/hostess at gatherings of current parents, past parents, prospective parents

Drama Productions

  • Assist with costumes or make-up
  • Serve as usher

Gardening:  Help maintain the beautiful flower gardens on campus; assist with the vegetable garden      

Athletics

  • Work the scoreboard for a volleyball game
  • Be a “ball boy” (or girl!) at soccer games!
  • Help with Cross-Country meets:  be a guide or distribute water
  • Offer additional medical coverage for Homecoming games
  • Assist with the February MIL basketball playoffs:  collect money at the gate, help with concessions
  • Be a Snack Shack volunteer:  donate items for sale, pick up items to stock the shelves, sell items at various games (The Snack Shack primarily benefits Prom)

Special Events:  Assist in various ways with the following:

  • Registration
  • Relay for Life
  • Parents’ Weekend
  • Homecoming
  • Christmas “Cheers!” (“goodie” bags for all students, faculty, staff)
  • Gates Gallery Exhibits (label and stamp postcards)
  • Music at Nottingham (label and stamp postcards)
  • Earth Day
  • Prom
  • Senior Fair
  • Graduation
