Founded in 1744, West Nottingham Academy (WNA) is the oldest boarding school in America. WNA offers a rigorous college-preparatory program on a beautiful campus near the Chesapeake Bay, just an hour from Baltimore & Philadelphia. With small classes, faculty that love to teach, and students from throughout the region & around the world, we invite you to learn more about our vibrant & rewarding community.

  • Location: West Nottingham is in the heart of the Mid-Atlantic region, within ninety minutes of  Washington, DC, just two-and-a-half hours from New York City,  and a sixty-minute drive from either Baltimore or Philadelphia.
  •  The oldest boarding school in America, West Nottingham has been a small, residential school for college-bound students since it was founded in 1744. For more, go to History.

  •  Enrollment: 120 students, grades 9-12 (PG); 26% of our students come from countries outside of the United States.

    AP opportunities in all academic disciplines; Students can earn Honors Designation for exemplary work in any course. For more, go to Academics.
  • Financial Aid & Tuition: More than 1/3 of WNA students receive financial aid. This year, WNA introduced The Heritage Fund which may cover up to 40% of a student's tuition costs in addition to financial aid. Learn more by clicking here.

    Effective College Counseling.  Recent graduates have attended a diverse array of schools including Syracuse University, Bucknell University, Dickinson College, Princeton University, Smith College, Oberlin College, Wellesley College, Ithaca College, New York University, Carnegie-Mellon, Massachussetts Institute of Technology, West Point Academy, University of Rochester, University of Maryland, Michigan State University.

  • Environmental Awareness. West Nottingham is an officially designated Green School by the Maryland Association for Environmental and Outdoor Activities because of our environmental activities and ecologically diverse campus.
