2020/02/27 - WNA Sustainability Students Head to Annapolis

On Feb. 23, 2020, students from West Nottingham Academy’s Environmental Science and Policy class, Student Environmental Council, and Diversity Team headed to Annapolis for meetings with delegates and senators to advocate for Maryland House Bill 517, a proposed constitutional amendment that would enshrine in Maryland’s constitution the right live in a healthy, healthful environment. Students had the opportunity to voice their concerns about their futures and express their support for the amendment, which makes clear that clean air and water and a stable climate are a fundamental right for all Marylanders. Read more...

2019/12/18 - Community and Business Leaders Support STEM Education at WNA

West Nottingham Academy hosted a VEX Robotics Competition qualifying tournament on Saturday, Dec. 14, 2019 in Ware Gymnasium. This event is the first of two planned competitions at West Nottingham for the 2019-20 academic year.  The VEX Robotics Competition, presented by the Robotics Education & Competition Foundation, tasks teams of students with designing and building a robot to play against other teams in a game-based engineering challenge. Read more...

2019/11/19 - WNA Hosts Policy Meeting for Food Waste Diversion in Public Schools

On Nov. 7, 2019, West Nottingham Academy hosted a meeting of policy makers, educators, farmers, researchers, government and nonprofit conservation organizations, business people, and West Nottingham students to discuss possibilities for Cecil County schools to divert food waste from the trash to methane digesters. 2019/10/29 - WNA to be Beneficiary of Alliance for the Chesapeake Bay Reforestation Project

West Nottingham Academy is reforesting its campus. A program funded by the Maryland Department of Natural Resources Chesapeake and Coastal Bays Trust Fund, in partnership with the Maryland Forestry Foundation, and coordinated by the Alliance for the Chesapeake Bay (Alliance), will plant over twenty-two acres of West Nottingham’s 100-acre campus with native trees. Read more...

2019/10/22 - Gallery Opening for Jess Leo, Artist-in-Residence at WNA

West Nottingham Academy is thrilled to announce the first of our three Gallery Openings this academic year for the Eric Fischl '66 Artist‐in‐Residence Teaching Program. Each trimester, a visiting graduate of the New York Academy of Art lives and works on campus, teaching classes and working on their own pieces to exhibit. Read more...

2019/10/14 - WNA Blends History with Experiential Learning in Newly Refurbished Building

The Student Environmental Council (SEC) of West Nottingham Academy is reimagining the Steele Log Cabin building, a small log cabin originally designed to be a replica of the one used by the school’s founder, Rev. Samuel Finley, in 1744. As the students transitioned the cabin to a usable educational space, they emphasized West Nottingham’s commitment to environmental well-being. Read more...

2019/10/07 - WNA Students Create Peer Writing Center

Under the guidance of English faculty member Laura Hart, students from West Nottingham Academy conceived and developed a Peer Writing Center to help students with writing projects for any subject. The Peer Writing Center opened its doors the first quarter of this school year and will now be a fixture of West Nottingham’s writing across the curriculum program. Read more...

2019/10/02 - Recognizing International Day of the Girl at WNA’s STEM Girl Powered Workshop

West Nottingham Academy is proud to be one of the one-hundred-fifty Girl Powered workshops that will take place around the world during the month of October, coinciding with the United Nation’s International Day of the Girl. Now in its fourth year, this global initiative was created through a partnership between the Robotics Education & Competition (REC) Foundation and VEX Robotics, who are working to redefine the face of STEM and make robotics reflective of the world we live in, and the one we want to leave behind. Read more...

2019/09/16 - WNA Faculty Member Receives National Recognition

Through endowed funding from West Nottingham Academy’s Cameron Fund, Mr. Rusty Eder, long-time faculty member and resident school historian, attended a three-day seminar on “Religious Freedom and Constitutional Government” directed by Ashland University’s Teaching American History project and hosted at George Washington University. 

His efforts at several such seminars, combined with the research while completing his Master of American History and Government degree have led to him being chosen as the sole teacher representative for the state of Maryland recognized by Ashland University. Read more...

2019/05/03 - WNA Baseball Player Signs National Letter of Intent

West Nottingham’s Kyle Bullard ’19 signed a National Letter of Intent to attend Lindenwood University-Belleville to play baseball. A native of the Bahamas, Bullard is a four-year starter as a position player and right-handed pitcher at West Nottingham Academy. He will be a corner outfielder for the Lynx next year. Read more...

2019/04/29 - Local Students Compete in Inaugural STEM Invitational at WNA

On Saturday, April 13, West Nottingham Academy welcomed ten students and their families to campus for the inaugural Spring STEM Invitational. The event brought together local and regional science fair winners from Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Virginia, and Maryland to compete for scholarships and prizes. Read more...

2019/02/28 - WNA Students Participate in House Hearing in Annapolis

Students from West Nottingham Academy and Mr. Bill Kilby of Kilby Dairy Farm and president of Cecil Land Trust travelled to the House of Delegates in Annapolis, Maryland to testify in support of two bills authored by Delegate Andrew Cassilly. 

HB 510 mandates that owners/operators of refuse disposal systems may not accept truckloads of yard waste or food waste unless they have the facilities to compost the waste. Read more...

2019/02/25 - WNA Students Raise Money for Breast Cancer Awareness

WNA's National Honor Society (NHS) members raised over $700 for breast cancer awareness in February. The Pink Games fundraiser was held on Wednesday, Feb. 13 and included a double-header of basketball games, and a performance by WNA’s dance team. Through t-shirt sales, raffle items, and donations, the student-driven fundraiser raised a total of $736. Read more...
