Kara Pleasants is the English Department Chair, Writing Center Director, and Choir Director at West Nottingham Academy. Currently, in her thirteenth year of teaching, she has taught at both the high school and collegiate level around Maryland, including four years as a lecturer with the University of Maryland (UMD) Professional Writing Program. She holds an M.A. in English Literature from UMD, concentrating on Early Modern Studies and Rhetoric (2016), as well as an M.Ed. in Curriculum and Instruction (2009) and a B.A. in Russian Language and Literature (2008). She received an Excellence in Education Award from the city of Bowie, MD, in 2011. Pleasants is also a published author, musician, and resident curator of the Henry Stump Farmhouse in Susquehanna State Park. When she is not researching, writing, or teaching, she also enjoys quilting, baking scones for the Havre de Grace Farmer’s Market, writing poetry, listening to NPR, and going on long nature walks with her family and their two dogs.
